3DP=ED: Printing-Up Economic Development & Additive-Manufacturing Jobs

NYC’s Next Mayor Needs Tech-Hypersavvy, Especially in ED-Empowering 3D Printing

Mayor Mike (Techie-Billionaire Michael Bloomberg) is our City’s first Digirati CEO. As such, he’s managed to rocket Gotham into the second spot—behind only Silicon Valley itself—in the race to become the world’s capital of technology-engined development.

Among other tech-driven enterprises, our DigiMayor innovated the citizen-friendly 311 service, initiated the Applied-Science Campuses competition (e.g., Cornell NYC Tech), created a Chief Digital Office and helped to make the City THE magnet for techreatives and cyber-preneurs from around the globe.

Employ Tech To Employ People

We’re on a tech roll. And, our City is prospering thereby. So, our next mayor needs to stay tech-focused—and extend Mayor Mike’s solid digital platform to accelerate City cyber-driven development.

On this Site—a Knowledge Platform for all things 3D Printing in and around Gotham—we believe Additive Manufacturing and 3DP are key to economic development in our City.

Where Some Mayoral Candidates Stand…or Fall

In the last month, we’ve seen some clear indicators of how various contenders’ tech-agendas stack up.

On 29 May—speaking to tech luminaries at General Assembly—Christine Quinn rolled out her hyper-ambitious, five-point plan to advance well beyond Bloomberg’s tech-based innovations.

By contrast—on 17 June—four other mayoral candidates paneled up on a Tech Policy Forum in Queens and embarrassed themselves before a techie crowd by admitting no knowledge of 3D Printing. Yowzah! as we’d say in Brooklyn. These four gentlemen were Sal Albanese, Adolfo Carrion, Jr., John Liu and Anthony Weiner.

See my video of that moment in the Forum HERE.

I happen to believe that “3DP=ED.” And, we’ll be talking about this concept right here going forward. So…
